Jesus and Playboy

If you have a content filter running, this post just may be the worst thing it's ever encountered.

While doing research for my last post, I quickly stumbled across some... "interesting" [read: incriminating] information. Not only was Kyla a Hooters waitress* at the time--perhaps she still is--but shortly after the incident with Southwest, she was approached by Playboy.

Playboy?

Yep. You know, the magazine that recently sent me an offer of twelve whole issues for only a buck a piece.

Those guys.

Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to get my wife to snap a picture so I could share the occasion with all of you <smile>.

Playboy: 12 Issues for $12

In fact, it turns out that Playboy seems to often approach the "rejected" and "disenfranchised" with open arms and camera lenses. After being rejected as a "rogue brand ambassador" for the Olive Garden, Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson put together an issue of Playboy devoted to The Girls of Olive Garden (the link is an article, not pictures <smile>).

What's interesting to me is that these girls take Playboy up on the offer and gladly pose nude for one of the largest porn--oh, I mean "Adult Entertainment"--magazines in the world.

For whatever reason, girls flock to Playboy when they feel rejected or slighted for being sexy.

All this reminds me of another time, long past, when similar girls would end up near Christ.

And that makes me wonder: What's changed?

Luke, thank you for posting this. Am sending the link to my husband who is VERY UPSET about getting this offer. I hear if you write "REFUSED, return to sender" on it that the company has to pay 65 cents return postage. Ask your post office and God bless.

Really, I think D will feel better seeing this. Any idea who sold your name? He is very upset.

Very interesting. Does make one ponder a bit doesn't it.

Luke...you're a brave man posting that picture.

I knew one of the 'Girls of the SEC' some years back, and she woefully regretted doing the magazine. It brought much more grief than reward, and she ended up leaving Vanderbilt because of it.

I've been hearing about guys receiving these offers! Yikes! Your picture looks like you were hoping to win the publisher's clearing house sweepstakes and you got that instead! haha! You know, its so sad, because they can never undo that photo shoot and print up. Ever. I do like your unlikely parallel, though. Very thought provoking.

First, that picture is hilarious.

Second, it's a sad commentary on the world when so many women are so willing to post for a porn magazine (adult entertainment my foot).

that was excellent.

How sad. I can see all those women, hungry for the word, who were allowed to listen and participate in religious discussion at the feet of Jesus. They loved Him, because He loved them, when no one else in the world did. He healed them, their bodies, mind and souls.

Jesus Christ is the ONLY social engineer mankind needs.

Thanks for posting and provoking thought. I'm going to share this with my kids.

My blog name is a combination of my two sweet children's names. They've been raised on Sonlight, by the way. My daughter will graduate in May. Will you be at the Orlando Homeschool convention. It's the bomb. You would love it.

Their names are Allyson and Jonah. :)

God bless you today.

Andrea, I have no idea... but that's a scary thought <smile>.

Mrs. C, I didn't even think of someone selling my name. I just thought it was hilarious <laughing>.

Tricia, that was my hope <smile>.

Tony, yikes. I've heard of these kinds of stories, and I'm happy for the ministry of xxxchurch as they reach out to those in the industry.

DyfessFam, yes. Right on.

Heather, agreed.

OnFire, thank you <smile>.

Tiffany, I got to your blog a day late, I think. But it looked like you had enough comments to match the amount given. Sorry I didn't get there sooner.

Ah, AllyJo, that makes sense. I haven't made it to any of the homeschool conventions yet. But it would be fun to go someday <smile>.

People want to be liked. When someone is feeling rejected, they are vulnerable to anyone who will offer them acceptance.
Jesus was very accepting of people.
What greater testimony of love than to die in order to make everyone, from the bum in the gutter to the king on his throne, acceptable to God?
Why it doesn't seem to happen that way now? I blame moral relativism.
Nice blog, I surfed here from Enjoying the Story.

I'll agree with Call Me Mom. Acceptance is what drives a lot of people, and unfortunately sometimes that desire drives them right into a deep, dark ditch.

I guess this goes to show that if you're thirsty enough, even poison tastes good.

I've seen you around in the blogworld and thought I'd check you out. Glad I did.

Luke, I see you mentioned XXXChurch. They are an awesome group and helping to change lives. Another group I just found is Hookers for Jesus. They work among the prostitutes in Vegas to help get these women off the street and show them they have value.

Call Me Mom and Billy, I totally agree: Acceptance and love. May we have our arms wide open with love and an acceptance that spurs us all on to doing good instead of evil.

Jeff, I hadn't heard of Hookers for Jesus. That's good. May they continue to be Christ in that area.
